Transparency and clarity, spaciousness and functionality, technical innovation and energy optimisation – the Walter Knoll building is the result of resolute corporate architecture. Whether at the company’s HQ in Herrenberg or the production facility in the neighbouring town of Mötzingen. The buildings combine the demands of efficient production and logistics with contemporary and sustainable architecture.

Clean lines, a few, but always select materials in the very best quality – our architecture is also characterised by durability, also aesthetically. The ecological concept is completed with optimised insulation and highly efficient heat pumps, concrete core thermal activation and sprinkler tanks for heat storage, photovoltaic plants and flood detention basins.


Products

Minimalist and timeless design is sustainable design. Because the use of natural materials, the minimal use of resources and aesthetic durability are characteristic of our design and architecture. This is how durability becomes ecology – even at the early stage of the draft. With their permanent, tested quality, our products are quite genuinely companions for life – not just for years but for decades.

With our products, we support certification programmes for green building, such as LEED (U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), and the environmental certification Global GreenTag (Green Building Council of Australia).

All materials and products by Walter Knoll have been subjected to strict tests to determine their durability, safety, material quality, emissions and environmental soundness. Whether initially in our own test lab in dimensional checks and mechanical endurance tests or later in tests carried out by independent external institutes.

As a long-term member of the German Quality Assurance Association (Deutsche Gütegemeinschaft Möbel e.V.), Walter Knoll regularly has its manufacturing processes and products tested for their enduring quality. The quality and test specifications (RAL-GZ 430) of the association – one the strictest and most extensive proof of furniture quality worldwide – stand for tested quality, guaranteed safety and healthy living.

Furthermore, the widely recognised GS mark confirms the tested safety of numerous Walter Knoll products.

Fabrics and leathers are also subjected to strict tests – for durability, rub fastness and abrasive wear, pilling, light and colour fastness as well as for how easy they are to clean. The top-quality cover materials fulfil the test criteria for national and international requirements as specified by »RAL-GZ 430«. Furthermore, experts at the German HQ test the quality of every leather hide and every length of material several times during the manufacturing process.

Fire protection

Foyers and lobbies, waiting areas and transit zones: Walter Knoll offers individual and flexible solutions for different requirements of fire protection in projects. Fire protection requirements in accordance with DIN EN 1021 and British Standard 5852 can thus be selected for all models. Depending on the configuration, the strictest requirements of fire protection can be achieved for select products – as shown by the TB 133 upholstery composite tests and the paper cushion test in accordance with DIN 54341.
